When it comes to choosing an SUV, the options seem endless. One name that has been making waves in the automotive world is VinFast, a relatively new player in the market. Their VinFast VF 8 City Edition has been generating quite the buzz, but is it really worth the excitement? Let’s delve into the details and see if this SUV lives up to its reputation.
VinFast’s Budget-Friendly SUV
VinFast’s cheapest EV is a surprisingly bad deal. Based on the automaker’s latest lease incentives, the VinFast VF 8 City Edition is only marginally more affordable than a VF 8 Eco with a lot more range. As a result, we think the VinFast City Edition may not be worth it for shoppers looking to get the most for their money.
The Price Dilemma
Through September 30th, the VinFast VF 8 City Edition Eco is listed at $431 for 36 months while the regular VF 8 comes in at $479. The City Edition (or VF 8 CE) is rated at 207 miles of range while the standard one gets 264 miles. While the difference in price may look reasonable, the truth is a bit more complicated.
That’s because the VF 8 City Edition lease deal requires $6,091 at signing, bringing its effective cost to $600 a month before taxes & fees. Confusingly, the regular VF 8 requires just $4,674 at signing. With an effective cost of $609, we think lessees may find the extra $9 bucks worth having the additional range on tap.
Is the City Edition Worth It?
So, back to our initial question: Is the VinFast VF 8 City Edition worth your investment? The answer might not be a straightforward “yes.”
While the City Edition does offer a budget-friendly entry into the world of VinFast SUVs, its limited range and slightly lower price may not justify the trade-off. For just a few extra dollars a month, you could opt for the standard VF 8 and enjoy significantly more range, which can be a game-changer in the world of electric vehicles.
In conclusion, the VinFast VF 8 City Edition, despite its appealing price tag, doesn’t offer the best value for your money when compared to its sibling, the VF 8 Eco. If you’re looking for an SUV that balances affordability with range, it might be wise to explore other options in the VinFast lineup or the broader SUV market. Ultimately, the choice comes down to your priorities and what you value most in an SUV – whether it’s budget-friendliness or an extended driving range.
